Their alloying—usually 22% chromium, 5–6% nickel, and 3% molybdenum—gives better resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking, particularly in chloride-contaminated or marine environments. Mechanical strength consists of high tensile strength (up to 620 MPa), excellent fatigue life, and better thermal conductivity.
