Stainless Steel 253MA flanges consist of around 21% of chromium, 11% of nickel, 1.7% of silicon, and rare earth metals (REM) for improved oxidation resistance. The alloy provides excellent tensile strength (approximately 600 MPa) and creep strength at high temperatures. It has excellent resistance against oxidation, sulfidation, and carburization. Silicon and REM additions provide superior performance under cyclic thermal conditions. While not suitable for strongly corrosive aqueous environments, 253MA provides good mechanical stability, high-temperature property, and oxidation resistance in dry, hostile atmospheres.
