Stainless Steel 316 flanges are made up of 16–18% chromium, 10–14% nickel, and 2–3% molybdenum. The presence of molybdenum greatly enhances resistance to corrosion, particularly to chlorides and other industrial solvents. These flanges have a tensile strength of about 515 MPa and a yield strength of about 205 MPa. The alloy shows good mechanical properties in a broad temperature range and possesses high resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking. Austenitic structure of the alloy delivers good weldability, formability, and toughness, which qualify it for industrial and marine uses.
