Stainless Steel 347 flanges consist mainly of 18–20% chromium and 8–13% nickel, supplemented by columbium (niobium) for stabilization. The stabilizing alloying element arrests precipitation of carbides during welding, improving resistance to intergranular corrosion. These flanges have a tensile strength of approximately 515 MPa and yield strength of about 205 MPa. They have good creep strength and oxidation resistance at high temperatures. Good formability and weldability are provided by the stabilized austenitic microstructure of Stainless Steel 347 due to which it can be used in repeated thermal cycling and long-time exposure at high temperatures.
