321 Stainless Steel flanges are mainly made up of 17–19% chromium, 9–12% nickel, and contain titanium (minimum five times the carbon content) for stabilization. Titanium addition avoids carbide precipitation on welding, and thus provides resistance to intergranular corrosion. The flanges have a tensile strength of approximately 515 MPa and a yield strength of about 205 MPa. They also possess high mechanical strength and resistance to oxidation at temperatures up to 870°C (1600°F). Austenitic structure has good toughness, ductility, and weldability, and therefore they are found suitable for repeated heating high-temperature applications.
